ABOUT FINDLAY'S DRUG STORE

For over a century Findlay’s Drug Store has served New Liskeard and area. Founded in 1906 by John Taft, the store was located on Armstrong Street. Frank Findlay purchased the store in 1921. The store moved to 51 Whitewood Ave and operated in a 900 square foot setting.

Duncan MacFarlane purchased the store around 1957 and operated it until January 1980. Bruce Alexander purchased Findlay’s Drug Store in January 1980 and has operated it ever since. From that day Bruce made a commitment to personal service.

“We are a very service oriented drug store and that remains our number one goal.”

In 1988, Findlay’s moved to a bigger location at 247 Whitewood Ave with 5200 square feet. The new store offered accessibility for the disabled, wider aisles and a more convenient checkout area with a larger dispensary. There was a much larger array of products in the front shop from cosmetics to giftware to home health as well as the more traditional drugstore fare.

With this product mix and service, Findlay’s was able to meet a broader base of clientele. At this time free delivery service was introduced to accommodate those customers unable to make it into the store. In November 2007, Findlay’s grew once again. Now at over 9000 square feet, Findlay’s showcases its departments and looks like an ultramodern store in any large center in Southern Ontario.

The new space reflects the evolution of Pharmacy

In addition to more display space, the expanded store offers fitting rooms and consultation rooms where qualified, trained staff can meet with individual clients. An aging population and a trend of living longer independently have meant the home health field – from diabetic supplies and testing kits to support stockings and back braces – is now a big player in modern pharmacy. Findlay’s also offers homecare and mobility aids to enable quality living at home.

In July of 2015, Bruce's son Steve came to work alongside him. With many pharmacists and a staff of over sixty, Findlay’s specializes in meeting the needs of our customers, reaching an area from Matheson to Temagami and into Québec. As an aid in medication management, we pre-pack medication in weekly dispensing packages for numerous patients.

This allows for easy handling of medication for those in complicated medical regimes and those with multiple medications. Ongoing staff training to achieve new skills and the knowledge required to serve their customers has been Bruce’s commitment.
